The life

He was raised in Mumbai and was a student in Hong Kong when the turn came — sitting, by his own account, with the logic of Swami Chinmayananda's commentary on the Gītā and finding it did what argument is supposed to do. He joined the Chinmaya Yuva Kendra there, and his early years of service were spent in the Far East. He trained under Swami Chinmayananda and Swami Tejomayananda, and in January 2017 became Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, which means more than 350 centres, and Chancellor of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth, the Mission's university. His emphasis is on practice inside ordinary working life, and it shows in the material he has made: Storm to Perform, Journey into Health, Ik Onkar, and the Make It Happen programme, taught to professionals and students who would never sign up for a course on the Upaniṣads. The Mission's Mumbai team turning out in force for the city marathon is entirely characteristic. There is a real question running underneath that, and it is the question this site sits on too. Can this teaching be put in the language of someone with a commute, a manager and a mortgage without becoming self-improvement? He clearly thinks it can, provided the texts stay in the picture — which is why the Mission still runs the two-year residential Vedānta course and still teaches Śaṅkara line by line.
