The life

He is from Odisha, on India's east coast, and he trained as a management professional before joining the Ramakrishna Order — which matters, because it left him fluent in the idiom of people who want to know how a claim would be tested. He taught for years inside the Order's institutions in India, served as Assistant Minister at the Vedanta Society of Southern California, and since January 2017 has been Minister of the Vedanta Society of New York, on West 71st Street. He was a Nagral Fellow at Harvard Divinity School in 2019 and 2020, and has spoken at Harvard, at the United Nations, and at the 2018 Parliament of Religions in Toronto — a hundred and twenty-five years after Vivekananda spoke at the first one. The method is the thing. He takes the Upaniṣads, Gauḍapāda and Śaṅkara in sequence, at their own pace, alongside contemporary philosophy of mind — the hard problem of consciousness, the arguments about physicalism — treating consciousness as the question rather than as something to be explained away later. He does not simplify into slogans, and he does not hide the technical parts. And almost all of it is free, recorded, and online: Mahavakya, Fullness and Emptiness, From Illusion to Infinity, and several hundred talks. A person anywhere in the world with a phone now has access to a curriculum that once required living within walking distance of a teacher. This site exists downstream of that fact.
