What happens to your email address
Short version: it is used to send you what you asked for — the daily message, the weekly gathering, the monthly letter, or any combination — and nothing else. It is never sold, shared, or used for advertising, and you can change what you receive or delete your record in one click from any email.
How it works in practice. When you sign up, one confirmation email is sent and nothing else follows until you click the link in it. After that you receive only the cadences you ticked, at a sensible hour in your own time zone. Every message carries a link to change those choices and a one-click link to delete everything held about you, with no reason asked. There are no analytics on this site and no tracking pixels in the emails, so we do not know whether you opened one.
Who is responsible
This is a family project run by a private individual in the United Kingdom, published for anyone who wants to read it. For data-protection purposes that person is the data controller. Requests about your data can be made by replying to any message you receive.
What is collected, and why
- Your email address — required, because there is no other way to send you an email.
- Your first name — optional, used only to open the message politely.
- Your country — optional, used only to choose a sensible sending time.
- Which cadences you chose — daily, weekly, monthly, or a combination, and the date each choice was made, because that is what tells the sender what to send you.
- A note of what was last sent to you — the date of the last daily message, the last weekly gathering and the last monthly letter, kept only so that nothing is sent to you twice.
- How you like to read — optional, so the message can lead with the part you argue with or the part you practise.
- Your phone number — optional, and only if you ask for the message on WhatsApp. It is used for nothing else: no calls, no other messages, no lookup, no sharing with anyone beyond the messaging provider that delivers the message for us.
- Your time zone and preferred sending time — optional, used only to send at a sensible hour where you are.
- The date and wording of your consent — kept because the law requires the controller to be able to demonstrate it.
Nothing else is collected. There is no advertising network on this site, no analytics script, no tracking pixel in the emails, and no profiling or automated decision-making.
WhatsApp delivery
WhatsApp is optional and is consented to separately from email, with its own tick box. You can have email only, and nothing on this site requires a phone number. If you do opt in, your number is confirmed the same way your email is before any message is sent to it, delivery is handled by a licensed business-messaging provider acting as our processor, and you can stop it at any moment by replying STOP on WhatsApp or by asking us to remove it. Message and data charges from your own network or from WhatsApp, if any, are outside our control. WhatsApp itself is operated by Meta under its own privacy policy, which applies to the delivery of the message to your device.
The lawful basis
Your freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous consent, given by ticking the relevant box or boxes on the sign-up form — email and WhatsApp are consented to separately (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR and EU GDPR). Consent is confirmed by double opt-in: a first email asks you to click a link, and nothing is sent until you do. If you never click, the pending record is deleted automatically.
How long it is kept
Until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record of the unsubscribed address so that you are not accidentally added again. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted within 30 days.
Withdrawing consent
Every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link in its footer, and honours the List-Unsubscribe header your email client uses. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately, requires no reason, and costs nothing. You may also simply reply with the word “stop”. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of anything sent before it.
Your rights
- Access — a copy of what is held about you.
- Rectification — correct anything wrong.
- Erasure — deletion of your record.
- Restriction and objection — pause or object to the processing.
- Portability — your data in a machine-readable form.
- Complaint — to your own supervisory authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
California residents have equivalent rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and to delete. No personal information is sold or shared for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. Readers in Canada (CASL), Australia (Spam Act) and elsewhere receive mail only after express opt-in, with sender identification and a working unsubscribe in every message — the same standard applied worldwide.
Children
The messages are written to be understood at any age, but the subscription itself is for adults. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to subscribe on your behalf and to read the message with you. No subscription is knowingly created for a child without that.
Cookies and embedded video
This site sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics. One small functional cookie is set only if you switch themes, remembering whether you prefer the night or daylight view; it contains nothing but that choice and is never read by anyone else. Videos are embedded from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain and load only when you press play; from that moment YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that request.
Where the data sits
Sign-ups are stored in Cloudflare's key-value storage, on the same platform that serves this site, and email is delivered by Resend, both acting as processors under their own data-processing terms. Nobody else receives your address. Transfers outside the UK/EEA rely on the standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
Changing what you receive
Every email links to your own preferences page, where you can switch any of the three cadences on or off, change the sending time, or delete the record outright. Nothing on that page asks for a password, because the link itself is the key — which is also why it is worth not forwarding one.
Content, quotation and images
The daily messages are original summaries; teachings are attributed to the teacher and text they come from. Portraits are used under free licences — public domain, Creative Commons, GODL-India or the Free Art Licence — and each one is credited individually on the picture credits page. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for any of the institutions named on it.
